Social media posts are short lived fleeting snapshots of our work. I wanted something more real that you can hold. It’s not about feeding social media. The MUSE series is an ongoing series of select collaborations that have an end product rather than just test shoots for ‘content’ that just lives on a phone screen.

At its core it’s an ongoing series of personal work, fine art/editorial portraits of women that focus on natural beauty. There is no specific theme other than that these portraits should be timeless and natural. Little or no make up, minimalist styling that doesn’t date the image in any way and no unnecessary retouching.

I rarely test for the fun of it anymore, I’m booked to shoot model updates and as much as I love it that’s my business, that’s work and it has a specific purpose. I wanted to shoot personal work without constraints, without thinking about pleasing an agency, just me and the model. Very much in my style but more free, more artistic and beyond just showcasing the model for potential clients.

Back in 2013 I started a project called ‘Timeless’ as an escape from the perfection of commercial work. I began experimenting with a raw and minimalist style for some time before I realised that this was something I was passionate about, that was the style I wanted to shoot and rather than being a project it quickly became what I was known for and the reason I was being booked. This remains the case to this day. I wanted a new project that wasn’t just testing again, more portrait than fashion and more free. Resurrecting ‘Timeless’ was initially the plan but after a while ‘Muse’ seemed more appropriate, it speaks more to the special kind of women that will be involved.

For the most part those that I will invite to shoot will be models, dancers and artists I have already photographed and had a really good experience with. Those that are passionate about art, the process and creating something more than just a portfolio update. Those kind of relationships where you just click with someone and there is a mutual trust and desire to create together. It really does make all the difference and shines through in the final image. The experience is as important as the result to me. I look back at the photographs and remember that experience, that fleeting moment in our lives that we forgot about everything else, froze time and created something beautiful.

While social media will play its part in promoting this work, these series will be presented as fine art prints, books and zines you can actually purchase. The books and zines will contain unpublished works that will be exclusive to print and not posted either on the website or social media. Of course buying a piece of our art also helps support those involved and fund more elaborate shoots in the future. Select works will be completely exclusive to those who join the mailing list and available to buy only for a limited time period making them more unique pieces of art.
